Agartala: Launching a scathing attack on the opposition CPIM and Congress in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday alleged that the CPIM-backed Congress government neglected the North East through their visionless “Loot East” policy.
According to the Prime Minister, when the BJP government was formed in 2014, North East was given due attention for the first time. “The ‘Loot East’ was replaced by ‘Act East’. The strategic importance of the North East got the attention of the central government after the BJP came to power.
Before 2014, Tripura, being a part of North East was a neglected region by the Central government. The Congress leaders used to visit the region whenever they required votes. Many leaders of the Congress party didn’t even know whether Tripura existed in reality or not,” the Prime Minister told an election rally held at Swami Vivekananda Maidan here in Agartala.
Hitting out at the ‘INDI alliance’ consisting of CPIM and Congress in Tripura, the Prime Minister said the Left and Congress have different political manoeuvres in different states.
In an oblique reference to Rahul Gandhi, he said, “The prince of the Congress party fled to Kerala after getting defeated in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress and CPIM are arch-rivals in Kerala. They keep shouting slogans against each other in Kerala. On the other hand, in Tripura, both parties campaigning for each other. This is the most opportunistic alliance of the country.”
Describing development works in Tripura under the BJP government as just a trailer, the Prime Minister said, “What has happened in Tripura since 2018 is just a trailer. The whole picture is yet to be unfolded. Each of the votes you cast for the BJP and NDA candidates will act as a contribution toward Viksit Tripura and Viksit Bharat.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the development works that happened in North East and Tripura after the BJP came to power. He directed the BJP workers to tell all the people who don’t have a Pucca house to keep faith in PM Modi. “A total of three crore new Pucca houses will be sanctioned if BJP is voted to power. Those who don’t have a pucca house tell them the Prime Minister has given a guarantee to ensure pucca houses for them,” added the Prime Minister.
CM Dr Manik Saha, BJP candidates of both the seats, leaders of Tipra Motha party and IPFT attended the public meetings that saw a massive gathering.
