Huawei has announced its plan to launch the Harmony OS 2.0 on smartphones in 2021. CEO Richard Yu made the announcement on thursday at Huawei’s developer conference in Shenzhen, China.

Harmony OS 2.0 will be available from September 10, 2020, on smartwatches, TVs, and head units.

Huawei is starting OpenHarmony project, which allows developers to build upon an open-source version of the OS. As of today, the open-source project will support devices with 128KB to 128MB of RAM, while it’s aiming to open up to devices with more RAM by April 2021 and October 2020.

The Chinese brand boast about the features such as an adaptive user interface depending on the device, improved security, and 'AI audiovisual' for smarter voice recognition. Huawei also focused on cross-device data transfers, claiming faster remote read/write performance

The firm also has been on multi-screen functionality for last year or two which makes it easier for multiple device communication based on IOT. For example, TV with a webcam being used for an online video lesson, displaying the teacher and child’s video window. Meanwhile, a tablet is used during the lesson to interact with course material.
