TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer quits citing change in ‘political environment'
TikTok chief executive officer (CEO) Kevin Mayer has quit the company just over 100 days into the job. In a letter to staff, the TikTok CEO said: "In recent weeks, as the political environment has sharply changed, I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for.”
"It is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company," he was quoted as saying .
Prior to his appointment as TikTok CEO, Mayer was the Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer & International division of The Walt Disney Company.
The development comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order on August 6 to shut down TikTok if ByteDance doesn’t sell the app’s U.S. operations. The app has until mid-November to divest itself.
