TeaOrb becomes first startup from Assam on Startup India Showcase

Guwahati: TeaOrb, a social entrepreneurship startup company, has become the first startup company from Assam to be showcased on the Startup India Showcase Platform.

Working closely with small tea farmers and estates of Northeast India, TeaOrb has launched TEAORB.COM, the world’s first Food & Beverage hybrid e-commerce portal that gives people all around the world access to high-quality teas from India at reasonable prices.

With TeaOrb, producers consistently obtain a decent price at auctions, and organic small tea farmers and speciality tea makers showcase their finest and freshest goods to customers, thanks to the use of technology as an enabler.

TeaOrb aims to provide an A to Z tea experience for all tea lovers, even for the distributors and retailers.

Usually, small tea farmers do not have the means to reach out to the niche market in the world for the sale of high-quality tea from Northeast India. As a result, some of these highly prized teas are picked up by middlemen and sold in the niche market, without any benefit accumulating for the farmers/manufacturers.

TeaOrb will work as the catalyst in solving these issues since this unorganised sector cannot afford to pay a better wage to tea workers and provide access to programs and services as their teas do not fetch a lucrative price in the status quo. This problem also makes tea pickers vulnerable to human traffickers who promise them better wages.

TeaOrb was cofounded by Jayanta Kakati and Bahniman Kakati, and apart from marketing and tourism, they also have a consulting wing to provide guidance to producers.

TeaOrb acts as an additional channel of sale to one of the oldest industries. Only those producers consistently fetching a good price in the auction and organic small tea farmers who manufacture traditionally without the use of machinery or least usage, along with speciality tea manufacturers showcase their products on the TeaOrb platform. TeaOrb stores, packs, ships and provides customer service for their products and create alternative ways to help the sustainability of workers in the unorganised sector by giving them the facility to learn and earn together through recreational activities which will improve both their mental and physical health.
