In an evenly fought contest, Jamshedpur FC edged out a fighting NorthEast United FC to earn three points in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 match at the PJN Stadium in Margao, Goa on Friday.

With this win, Jamshedpur FC have thirty-four points and now just need 1 more point to guarantee playoffs qualification for the first time in their history. In spite of having most of the possession throughout the match, NEUFC could not avoid another defeat, in what has been a forgettable season. It was a high scoring thriller.

For Jamshedpur FC, Len Doungel, Stewart and Murray scored the three goals while Laldanmawia Ralte and Marcelinho scored the two goals for the Highlanders.

The first half was slow and lacked any sort of aggressiveness from both teams. However, a sharp header from Seiminlen Doungel helped Jamshedpur FC break the deadlock and go into halftime leading by a goal.

The pace of the game took a different turn in the second half with both teams going hard against each other. Some great display of individual brilliance by Greg Stewart meant Jamshedpur FC scored their second in the 58th minute.

It looked all but over for the Highlanders but they definitely had other plans. Two goals in two minutes by the NEUFC boys and they meant business. First, Laldanmawia Ralte scored off a loose ball and then Marcelinho kept his calm to score the equalizer.

Both teams went all out to score the winner but it was Jamshedpur’s Jordan Murray, who had the last laugh and scored to win the game for The Red Miners. Ricky Lallawmawma was adjudged the Hero of the Match.

NEUFC will next play against East Bengal on Monday, February 28.
