NorthEast United FC will look to revive its fortunes in what has been a mostly miserable season so far when they take the field against an inconsistent Chennaiyin FC in their next match of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-2022 on Saturday at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, Goa.
NEUFC has not won a single match in 2022. They are currently at the bottom of the points table with just nine points from twelve matches. Chennaiyin FC has been unpredictable throughout the season and will see this as one of the best opportunities to earn three crucial points against the underperforming NEUFC side and get to the Top 4 of the points table. Today’s match will start at 7:30 PM IST. It will be telecast live on the Star Sports Network, Disney+ Hotstar and Jio TV.
Former champions Chennaiyin FC’s campaign has been full of ups and downs. While their defenders have been top class, they have been unable to replicate similar results in the attacking front, having scored just ten goals in eleven matches. Mirlan Murzaev and Anirudh Thapa will be key. The Highlanders, meanwhile, will have to improve on several fronts to create any impact. While their defenders have been poor, their inability to convert key opportunities has also been a cause of concern.
While the Covid-19 situation has made it difficult to concentrate, Chennaiyin FC Head Coach Bozidar Bandovic is ready for the game. Ahead of the match, he said, “Of course, they(NEUFC) have good players. There is Imran (Khan), (VP) Suhair, and we will see what happens with Deshorn (Brown), he is a dangerous player. They use a different type of pressing. We will look at their games. We are ready for the game, but I always concentrate on my team.”
NEUFC and Chennaiyin FC have played each other fifteen times before. NEUFC has won six of these encounters, while Chennaiyin has emerged victorious four times. The remaining games have ended in a draw.
