At the end of the first half, the Spanish fans must have been left wondering why they were in lead. They had controlled the half, they had more passes, and Italy offered little in terms of attack. But Mancini’s side has learnt to weather a storm well. Their demeanour changed in the second half and at the 60th minute, they led courtesy, Chiesa. But Spain had one ace up its sleeve: Alvaro Morata, often derided but never underestimated, equalised with just over 10 minutes to go. Neither team could take the lead again. Cue penalties and Italy now await the winner between Denmark and England.
