After much delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Championship aka UEFA Euro 2020 kickstarted on Friday with an opening match between Italy and Turkey. A total of 24 teams are battling for the win and bets are already rolling for the highly anticipated competition that is already a year late.
Let us take a look at which country has a better shot at taking home the UEFA EURO 2020 Championship trophy and how the public is betting.
According to the Telegraph, which provided odds by Sky Bet, France is the number one contender to win Euro 2021, while England is now the second favourite. Belgium, the No 1 side in the Fifa world rankings, is third favourite.
France – 9/2
England – 11/2
Belgium – 6/1
Spain – 15/2
Italy – 8/1
Germany – 8/1
Portugal – 8/1
Holland – 12/1
Denmark – 25/1
Croatia – 28/1
Odds Shark says both France and England are co-favourites and at the top of the Euro 2020 betting odds.
As reported by the Washington Post, DraftKings Sportsbook listed seven teams with odds of better than 10-1 to win Euro 2020 – France, England, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Italy and Spain. All of the other teams have to be considered long shots.
While the Euro 2020 betting odds by Draftkings Nation put reigning World Cup titleholder France as the favourite to win the whole thing, public appears to be putting their trust in England.
However, England has never won the competition in its 60-year history. The closest they’ve come is third place, in 1968 and 1996; aside from those two finishes, they’ve never made it past the quarterfinals.
Draftkings Nation’s winning betting handles are England (33%), followed by France (22%) and Italy at 15%.
