Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj's father passes away; pacer to miss father's last rites

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj who is in Australia with the Indian squad for the upcoming India tour lost his father Mohammed Ghouse on Friday.

Ghouse, 53, succumbed to a lung ailment which he had been battling for a long time.

According to reports, Siraj won't be returning for the last rites of his father back in Hyderabad due to the COVID-19 quarantine protocols in both the countries.

Siraj's father was instrumental in the pacer's growth as a cricketer, as Ghouse supported his son's dreams with his limited resources.

The Indian squad are currently undergoing a 14-day mandatory quarantine, and has been training in isolation on the outskirts of Sydney after they landed in Australia on November 13 straight from the Indian Premier League(IPL) in the UAE.

Siraj, 26, is part of the Indian Test squad in Australia as the fifth pace-bowling option along with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini. Siraj who has played one ODI and three T20Is so far for India earned his place in the Test squad following an impressive domestic and IPL season.

Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recently-concluded IPL, Siraj picked up 11 wickets in 9 games.

India will play Australia in the first ODI on November 27 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
