India skipper Virat Kohli might miss out on the later part of the India tour of Australia owing to personal reasons.
According to reports, the India skipper might not play the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he is expecting the birth of his first child in January 2021.
According to media reports, a source close to the BCCI said that Virat is expected to take paternity leave following the first two Tests of the series, and that the BCCI will always give the first priority to family.
The prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy will begin with a pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval on December 17, 2020, followed by the second Test which will be a red ball affair at Melbourne on December 26. The third and fourth Tests will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Brisbane on January 7 and January 15 respectively.
According to reports, Virat’s absence might make in-roads for an in-form KL Rahul into the Indian middle order.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was seen back in the Mumbai Indians playing XI in the previous two games. Even though Rohit returned with some disappointing performances in these two matches, the very fact that Rohit is out on the field has increased hopes that he might be part of the Australia tour.
Although a final call is yet to be taken, reports suggest that the Indian white-ball vice-captain could well board the flight to Australia with the rest of the Indian squad on November 11.
