IPL 2020| Mid-season transfer window starts today; know details

Here is all you need to know about this mid-season transfer

It is halfway stage at the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League, with all the teams having played seven matches each, and the mid-season transfer for the on-going season starts from today, which is going to be a first of its kind. The window will now allow franchises to assess their situation and make changes to strengthen their grip going towards the business end of the tournament. According to the IPL norms, all teams must have played half of their matches before the process to begin, and therefore after the Match 28 between KKR and RCB, this window starts from today.

Here is all you need to know about this mid-season transfer

The mid-season transfer process
Franchises can lend out players(both capped and uncapped, Indian and overseas) in loan to other interested teams. The loan process, paperwork , expression of interest etc. has started from October 7, but the exact transfer window will start from today.

Duration of the window
The mid-season transfer window for the tournament will remain active for five days.

Players eligibility
Players who have played two or less than two games this season will be eligible for getting picked by other franchises. If any player has played more than two games this season, he will not be eligible. The IPL rule says, “Any player who has played (in XI or as concussion substitute) less than two matches.” A mutual consent between the player and the franchise will be needed to complete the process.

Restrictions for the traded player
The big catch is, according to the IPL rules, the player who is traded cannot play against the lending franchise. For example; if Chris Gayle is picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad, he cannot play in Sunrisers’ clash against the Kings XI Punjab

Fee structure
The franchise who will lend the player will get an amount mutually agreed between the two franchises. Fifty percent of the loan fee will be paid “within 7 days of registration” and rest “within 7 days of the final match of the season”.

Likely transfers:

Player: Imran Tahir
Present team: Chennai Super Kings
Who would be interested: Delhi Capitals
Reason: Tahir had picked up 26 wickets in the last season, but he is yet to get a game this season. The Delhi Capitals who lost Amit Mishra with an injury for the whole season might look at Tahir as a like-for-like replacement

Player: Chris Gayle
Present team: Kings XI Punjab
Who would be interested: Kolkata Knight Riders
Reason: Chris Gayle has been one of the most devastating batsmen in T20 cricket, and he has shown his destruction in the IPL time and again, but because KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal have been great at the top of the order for Punjab, he has not featured in a single game this season. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have struggled throughout the season with their opening combination and the Knight Riders have already used three different openers with Shubman Gill in just seven games. Therefore the Knight Riders will be tempted to rope in the big Jamaican into their side.

Player: Ajinkya Rahane
Present team: Delhi Capitals
Who would be interested: Chennai Super Kings
Reason: Rahane has more than 3800 IPL runs under his belt, but has played just a single game this season, and with the Chennai Super Kings struggling big time with their batting line up, the franchise might just be interested to have a proven top-order batsman by their side

Player: Chris Lynn
Present team: Mumbai Indians
Who would be interested: Rajasthan Royals
Reason: A set Mumbai Indians playing XI is the sole reason this dangerous opening batsman is yet to feature in this season of the tournament. With a brilliant record in the past with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Lynn is a great asset to have top of the order, and the Rajasthan Royals who have struggled with their batting big time since their first two matches, would surely like to have this big-hitting Aussie in their team.
