Sunrisers Hyderabad finally have their first win of the season as they eased passed the Delhi Capitals by 15 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Tuesday Credit: SRH Twitter

Put into bat first after losing the toss, the SRH got off to a pretty decent start as David Warner and Jonny Bairstow put up a brisk 77-run-opening partnership which helped SRH to score 162/4 at the end of the stipulated 20 overs.

Warner was dismissed after scoring a quick 33-ball-45 by Amit Mishra in the 10th over and was quickly followed by Manish Pandey as he was dismissed cheaply for just three runs, once again by Amit Mishra.

Following the dismissal of Manish Pandey, brought Kane Williamson out in the middle, who was playing his first match this season after missing out on the first two games due to an injury issue. Coming out to bat after a long gap, Williamson did not seem out of touch even for the least amount of time on the night, as he played in his own elegant style maneuvering the ball into the gaps, moving around the crease creating the all important angles and timing the ball with sheer class.

Bairstow and Williamson added 52 runs for the third wicket, as Bairstow struggled his way to a hard-fought 53 of 48 deliveries before he was dismissed in the 18th over. Williamson was out in the final over with a 41 off 26, by far the best innings by a SRH batsman on the night. IPL debutant Abdul Samad played a small cameo at the end that included a huge six over long-on and thus finishing the SRH innings with 162/4 on the board.

Coming out to chase a decent total on a slow Abu Dhabi pitch, the Delhi Capitals lost their opener Prithvi Shaw in the very first over with Shaw edging an outgoing shorter one from Bhuvneshwar and holding out to the SRH keeper Jonny Bairstow.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer added 40 runs for the second wicket, but it was a very slow partnership before Shreyas Iyer was dismissed in the 8th over for just 17 runs.

A short yet quick 22-ball-partnership of 42 runs between Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer gave the Delhi fans some hope but once Hetmyer(21) and Rishabh Pant(28) was dismissed in quick succession in the 16th and 17th over respectively, all hopes for the Delhi Capitals vanished, and eventually the Delhi Capitals could manage only 147/7 at the end of their 20 overs falling 15 short of the SRH target, thus losing their first match in the season and SRH winning their first.

Rashid Khan was the pick of the SRH bowlers as he registered his best figures in IPL, giving away just 14 runs in the four overs he bowled and picked up three very important wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.
