According to reports, around 5-6 teams have requested the BCCI for organising warm-up games
Guwahati: The Indian Premier League is all set to start from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates, and the franchises are undergoing training sessions after a week’s quarantine.
Being out of cricket for almost four months, because of COVID-19, the teams are trying to get in shape by playing intra-squad games. The franchises feel that nothing can substitute competitive cricket and therefore want to play warm-up games before the tournament.
According to reports, around 5-6 teams have requested the BCCI for warm-up games.
However, the BCCI is yet to give a firm commitment on the request made by the franchises. But, if reports are to be believed, the board has assured the teams that they will seriously look into the request once the IPL 2020 schedule is firmed up.
Not only the franchises, but even the IPL’s broadcast partners Star India is also in favour of few warm-up games and has shown interest in either streaming or televising the games, if they get the approval. If the Indian Cricket Board gives a nod, the warm-up games can be played between 11th to 16th September.
The BCCI is yet to announce the final schedule of the league. However, With the BCCI and ECB getting the waiver from the Abu Dhabi government, the schedule for the cash-rich league is expected anytime soon.
