ENG vs PAK: Captain Morgan shines as England win 2nd T20I
Guwahati: Eoin Morgan belted a blistering 66 of 33 combined up with a beautiful unbeaten 54 of 36 from David Malan to help England chase down a record target at Old Trafford to beat Pakistan by five wickets in the second Twenty20 international on Sunday.
Put in to bat first, Pakistan posted 195/4 in their 20 overs on a flat wicket, with their top order getting the runs. Babar Azam smashed 56 from 44 balls in an opening stand of 72 with Fakhar Zaman (36 from 22 balls) followed by an assaulting knock from number three Mohammad Hafeez(69 of 36), who carried on that momentum against the English bowlers, who struggled to find the right length on the pitch already favoring the batsmen.
Leg-spinner Adil Rashid was the pick of the English bowlers, who recorded figures of 2-32 picking up both the Pakistani openers.
Coming in to chase a big total, English openers Jonny Bairstow (44 from 24 balls) and Tom Banton (20 from 16 balls) got their side off to a fast start with an opening stand of 66 in 38 deliveries. Both of them were dismissed in consecutive balls by Shadab Khan (3-34), giving England a mild scare.
But it was Captain Morgan and Dawid Malan who led the counter-attack and put on a brilliant third-wicket partnership of 112 in 62 balls. Morgan departed caught in the deep with England still needing 18 runs to win, but Malan made sure England win the match comfortably as he finished off with a boundary to seal off the match with five balls remaining.
England leads the three-match T20 series 1-0 after the first match was abandoned due to rain. The third and final match in the series is due to be played at the same venue on Tuesday.
