Another soggy evening at Emirates Old Trafford, with the weather once again playing its part, as the opening match of the T20 series between England and Pakistan was abandoned due to rain.

England opener Tom Banton returned the only happy man in the evening as he seized the opportunity in the absence of Jos Buttler and Jason Roy and played a fine knock of 71.

Put into bat first by Pakistan after winning the toss, England suffered an early blow as Jonny Bairstow (2) was dismissed in the first over of the match, courtesy a sharp return catch from Imad Wasim.

Banton put on an impressive partnership of 71 runs with Dawid Malan(23) before the partnership came to a miserable end as Malan found himself in the middle of the nowhere having set off for a sharp single in which his partner had no interest.

Captain Morgan reverse-swept the first ball he faced for a four and the third for a six, but that was all he could offer before was out lbw missing a sweep of Ifthikar Ahmed.

Following Banton’s dismissal, top-edging an attempted heave across the line off Shadab Khan, the England innings saw a massive collapse, with four wickets falling for the addition of just 14 runs in a span of 19 deliveries.

The English batsmen completely lost their way against the Pakistani spinners before rain started to pour in heavily and the players had to walk off the field with England at 131/6.

The umpires had a lengthy inspection after the rain stopped, but eventually decided that the outfield was too wet to get the game back on, thus the match being called off, pretty much the story of this whole Pakistan tour of England untill now.
