Guwahati: Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings seems to be under some serious trouble, as members of the contingent have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

With even less than a month remaining for the tournament to get underway, it is a massive blow to the 'yellow army', as at least 10 members of the contingent have tested positive for COVID-19. Although the names of the players, support staff and officials have not been revealed yet, an Indian player is also in the list of the members who have tested positive. The positive results came out after the squad and support staff took the test on Thursday. Sources close to the contingent confirmed the same on Friday.

Chennai Super Kings had announced the extension of their quarantine period earlier in the day. The exact reason for the extension is clear enough now.

The CSK team reached Dubai on August 21 after attending the camp in Chennai, and were expected to start training on Friday, but due to the members being tested positive, CSK has decided to extend their quarantine period and postpone the training camp to September 1.

As per the COVID protocols laid down by the IPL governing council, all teams would have to undergo a test at the airport upon landing in the UAE followed by three tests on days 1, 3 and 5 during the mandatory six-day quarantine at the team hotel. A team can start training only after all the test results come out negative.

On Saturday, August 29, the result of the fourth test of the whole CSK squad is expected to be revealed.

The development also means that the MS Dhoni-led team will be the last franchise to start training for the tournament after reaching the UAE.
