Guwahati: MS Dhoni’s decision to retire from international did not come as a surprise for many, as he had been away from competitive cricket for over a year since India’s exit in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand. However, how Dhoni chose to hang up his boots, was what surprised many. Dhoni announced his decision at 7:29 PM on August 15 with a post on Instagram.
Ever since the former Indian skipper announced his retirement, tributes have been pouring in for him from across the globe, for his decorated career. Thousands of fans and several former cricketers believe that a person of MS Dhoni’s era should not be going off in silence, and are requesting the BCCI to host a farewell match for the legend. Even the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren had made an appeal to the BCCI for a farewell match for MS Dhoni.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is, reportedly, trying their best to host a farewell match for MS Dhoni. Speaking about the farewell match, a BCCI official recently confirmed that the board is planning to organize a game after the conclusion of the IPL 2020, which is all set to start from September 19.
According to reports, the BCCI will do the planning for the match during the IPL, which is ending on November 10.
According to a senior BCCI official, BCCI is very keen to host a farewell match for MS Dhoni and the sudden announcement of his retirement came as a surprise for them as well. And because no international cricket is underway for India right now, the board is thinking to organize a farewell match for him after the IPL.
He also said that the board is yet to communicate about the same to Dhoni, and during the IPL they would discuss with him whether to organize a match or a series, and it will be completely up to Dhoni whether he wants to play a farewell match or not.
But the official confirmed that the board will make sure that a proper felicitation ceremony is held for the Indian World Cup-winning captain, even if he disagrees about the same.
Being able to see MS Dhoni don the India jersey for one last time will surely please his fans all around the world.
Currently, MS Dhoni is in the Chennai Super Kings training camp and is all set to leave for Dubai with the squad on Friday for the 2020 edition of the IPL.
