Mahendra Singh Dhoni signs off in his own unique style
Guwahati: “Dhoni finishes off in style,” a line that every Indian is familiar with, a line every cricket lover loves to hear. Be it the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup final against Sri Lanka in Mumbai with the bat, or the 2016 ICC World T20 super 10 qualifiers against Bangladesh in Bengaluru behind the stumps, Mahendra Singh Dhoni always liked to finish off in style, something his fans enjoyed around the globe.
On Saturday, he did no different, as he brought down the curtains to his amazing International career in his own unique style when he posted an Instagram video of 4.06 minutes including all the memorable moments of his International career with an iconic Bollywood song Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hu playing in the background. He wrote: “Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”.
A total 538 appearances, 172666 runs, 16 centuries, 108 half-centuries, 829 electric dismissals behind the stumps in international cricket, along with 1 ICC 50 over World Cup, 1 ICC T20 World Cup, 1 ICC Champions Trophy, to name a few, were among the many his credits as a captain. Such a glorious and an endless career brought to an end with just one line and a short video, once again, really Dhoni finished off in style.
Dhoni has always been known for his cool and calm composure with a witty mind on and off the field. He has always been known to surprise everyone with his out of the box decisions, keeping everyone guessing. He did the same once again, as he announced his retirement at 7:29 pm on Saturday, people all around the cricketing world went crazy over the decision while many were left guessing about the secret behind the time -- 7:29 pm.
Although there hasn’t been any sort of official confirmation about the same, one probable reason for Captain Cool choosing to retire particularly at 7:29 pm might be that the match in which team India got knocked out of the World Cup 2019 last year, Martin Guptill ran him out in the penultimate over of the innings to break millions of hearts, and the man, Dhoni, walked away from the field for the last time at 7:29 pm (IST) with a grim face.
Dhoni might have tried to indicate that his career ended at that moment itself when he was run out to Guptill, as the video, he posted also shows how disappointed he was at that moment.
Speculations will never come to an end as the great man hung up his boots, but as always he finished it off in style.
