MS Dhoni likely to be part of CSK till IPL 2022: CEO K Viswanathan
Guwahati: Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) chief executive officer (CEO) K Viswanathan has said that the franchise is fully confident about MS Dhoni’s availability for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Dhoni, who hasn’t played any competitive cricket since India’s 2019 World Cup exit in the semis, will have all eyes on him, as he is all set to return to the cricket field after a gap of almost 13 months.
Putting the team management’s weight behind Dhoni’s return, Vishwanathan said that the management is very confident that he will be a part of the CSK squad for both the 2020 and 2021 season of the IPL, and they even expect that he will probably be available for the 2022 season as well.
There has been a lot of speculation over Dhoni's future since the 2019 World Cup, but earlier in January this year, N Srinivasan, the vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements, owners of the Super Kings franchise, said Dhoni would be retained by the team going into the mega auction for the 2021 IPL.
The CSK began their training session on March 2, and Dhoni joined the training session from the first day itself, bringing an end to all the speculations regarding his retirement. The former India skipper also smashed a blistering 123 of 91 deliveries in a CSK practice match, before the practice sessions got suspended in March due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Super Kings are reportedly planning for a short camp at Chepauk from August 16 to 20, for a group of about 15 Indian players of the squad, including MS Dhoni, before they move to UAE for the real action. The CSK authorities are awaiting a written permission from the Tamil Nadu government regarding the same.
