GANGTOK: COVID-19 cases continued to rise in Sikkim, with the state reporting 198 new cases. East Sikkim recorded the most cases with 141, followed by 28 in West Sikkim, 26 from South Sikkim and three from North Sikkim. 

The cumulative positivity rate in the state stands at 11.6 percent. As of January 10, the rate was at 11.7 percent. The state’s weekly positivity rate stands at 13.1 percent.

Following the rise in COVID cases, the state’s Pakyong airport also initiated testing on January 10. On Tuesday, four passengers from the Delhi-Pakyong flight and six passengers from the Kolkata-Pakyong flight tested positive.

So far, no Omicron case has been detected in the state. The genome sequencing sent by the state health department reached West Bengal in the first week of January, and the final report is awaited.

The state has recorded 519 COVID cases and one death since January 1.
