Gangtok: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Lobzang G Tenzing, president of Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), as the manager of the India Under-19 team. The Indian team will play ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies from January 14 to February 5, 2022.. India will also play the Asia Cup tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in the UAE from December 23 to 31.

Tenzing has been the president of SICA since 2016, and under his leadership, the small state has made its mark in the East Zone with its men and women’s teams under different age categories.

“I am pleased and honoured to be in the presence of the future cricket stars of the country. I hope to bring some dazzle of these stars back home and to our region. I am also immensely thankful to Shri Jay Shah, secretary, BCCI, for giving me such honour and responsibility. His concern and commitment for developing NE is real and it shows in his action,” said Lobzang Tenzing.

Being a proactive cricket administrator, Tenzing has worked hard in ensuring better infrastructure, enhanced funds and recognition from the BCCI for state cricket bodies of not only his home state of Sikkim but also the north-eastern states as a whole.

The Sikkim Cricket Association expressed pride in a statement that stated, “The BCCI has reposed its trust in the administrative abilities by appointing our president as the manager of the India Under-19 team. We also feel that his new responsibility will give a boost to the confidence of the Northeast cricket associations in producing national-level players and administrators of the game.”
