Miss Sikkim

Gangtok: Former Miss Diva Supranational (2017) Peden Ongmu Namgyal from Sikkim has featured in a campaign with Bollywood Diva Sunny Leone. ‘I am Animal’, an ‘organic athleisure label’ by activist-entrepreneur Kunal Avanti, was launched on World Animal Day (October 4). The former Miss Sikkim (2017) Peden Ongmu was scouted in 2020 on Instagram by Avanti. 

The PETA-approved cruelty-free brand has Leone as an investor in the venture along with her husband Daniel Weber. Earlier this month, the website and first-line ‘Collection Zero’ was launched, while the idea was conceived almost three years ago. 

Peden Ongmu speaking with EastMojo, shared, “I was scouted in 2020 over Instagram by Kunal Avanti. We had a meeting in Mumbai. I was finalized as one of the front members of the brand. The shoot took place in January 2021 in Kamshet, Pune for two days. We met Sunny Leone on the second day of the shoot. She was really fun to be around during the shoot. The Third and Final day of the shoot took place in Film City, Mumbai”. 

Peden has previously walked the ramp for Celebrity Designer Manish Malhotra as well as in Lakme Fashion Week, among many other modelling ventures.   

“The logo is a depiction of an open eye. This symbolises being aware and awake. Creating awareness about ethical, environmental and social issues is at the core of our existence. The name stemmed from the fact that at our most basic level we are all animals that belong to the earth. I am Animal is a reminder of who we are meant to be, rather than who we have become. ‘I am strong, I am wise, I am love, I am awake, I am animal”, shared Avanti with The Telegraph on October 4. 

Avanti approached Leone and Weber, presenting the idea, first cut plans, design and organic prototypes, which the duo resonated with what Avanti was trying to build. The I am Animal tagline ‘Find your own way’ embodies there is a right or wrong way to succeed in life, shared the activist-entrepreneur.

Sunny Leone has been a strong voice for animals using her platform constantly to spread the message. The digital video and photoshoot will be launched worldwide.
