Gangtok: By-polls for Arithang II Municipal ward under Gangtok Municipality will take place on September 17. The elected councillor from the ward, Raju Tamang had expired on May 2, days before the swearing-in ceremony, earlier this year.
State Election Commissioner Nima L. Yethenpa in the presence of State Election Commission Secretary N.T. Bhutia held a press conference on August 16 with regard to the upcoming By-Elections for electing a candidate to fill up the vacant seat for 10/Arithang – II Municipal Ward in the Commission Office.
The State Election Commissioner, Sikkim announced the election scheduled for conducting the By-election to the following Ward as provided under Rule 119 of the Sikkim Municipalities (Code of Conduct) Rules, 2007.
The ward is unreserved and On August 16, the State election commission formally issued Notification and enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
The last date of filing nomination is on August 23, while the last date for scrutiny of nomination is on August 24, while August 26 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of Candidature. With September 17 being fixed as the date for the poll, September 19 will be the day of counting and September 22 will be the day before which the election shall be completed.
The Commission fixes the hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken on the date specified above the election.
The filling of nomination shall be taken up by the Municipal Election Returning Officer (MERO) of the East District.
The State Election Commissioner, Sikkim further appealed to all the voters for maximum participation in the election to elect the new member for the Arithang II ward.
