GANGTOK: Sikkim’s Additional Chief Secretary GP Upadhyaya had to face trolls for tweeting the picture of Dhampus Village in Nepal and tagging it as ‘incredible Sikkim’.

Upadhaya, who has a verified Twitter account, used the social media platform on Saturday to share images of picturesque cottages with mountains in the background, not unlike the Himalayan state of India. Upadhyaya captioned the now removed tweet, “Adbhut Sikkim” (Incredible Sikkim) with #incredibleindia.

However, netizens were quick to identify the location as Dhampus Village in northern-central Nepal’s Kaski District. Another social media reaction identified the photographer Sunder Thapa, and how the picture was taken during the Dhampus Trek in Nepal.

A series of trolls followed, shaming the senior bureaucrat, who later admitted his mistake and corrected his tweet with a series of photos of the Kanchenjunga mountain range.

He tweeted, “This was a mistake, I am happy so many of you pointed this out. Now sharing the corrected ones. Sikkim is indeed ADBHUT.
