Gangtok: Two men from Chanatar, Rangpo in East Sikkim district were arrested by Sikkim Police for abusing women doctors at Central Referral Hospital in Tadong, Gangtok.

The due, identified as Bikash Dhungel (28) and Shankar Sharma (30), have been booked under Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when the two accused had their father admitted at the emergency ward of the hospital. The CRH management said that adequate treatment was provided to the patient. “They appeared to be drunk. They started hurling abuses and using obscene language on our women doctors in the emergency ward. The incident carried on for some time until other doctors intervened,” officials said.

The following day, on June 11, CRH doctors collectively filed a complaint which was later taken as an FIR after the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Yogesh Verma, intervened.

The patient has since been discharged, while the two accused were taken to Sadar Police Station for questioning.
