Gangtok: Sikkim on Thursday recorded 249 new COVID-19 cases taking the state’s tally to 12,204. There are currently 3,122 active cases in the state.

After remaining in partial lockdown for 10 days, Sikkim went into complete lockdown since May 17. From May 6, when the partial lockdown was put into place, the state recorded 3,021 COVID-19 cases.

In the same period, 59 COVID-19 deaths were recorded taking the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 217.

Three deaths were recorded in the state on Thursday, one each from STNM Hospital, Central Referral Hospital and District Hospital, Singtam. During the day, 216 recoveries were also recorded in the state, with 2,090 recoveries recorded during the lockdown period.

There are 220 COVID-19 patients admitted in different hospitals of the state, of which 137 are in STNM Hospital, 74 in CRH and nine in Mangan District Hospital. There were 26 new admissions in the hospitals of which 13 are in STNM, 12 in CRH and one in Mangan. As many as 22 patients are currently in ICU, of which 18 are in STNM and four in CRH.

Of the 249 new COVID-19 cases, 121 cases were recorded in East Sikkim. With this, 1,938 cases were recorded during the lockdown period, taking the district tally to 8,819 cases so far.

Similarly, 75 new cases were recorded in South Sikkim on Sunday. As many as 588 were reported during the lockdown period, taking the district’s tally to 2,008 cases so far.

West Sikkim recorded 40 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Since the lockdown, 399 cases have been recorded, taking the district’s tally to 954 cases so far.

North Sikkim recorded 13 new cases, with 76 cases being recorded in the lockdown period, taking the district’s tally to 213 cases so far.

There are 53 people in the five COVID-19 care centers with eight of them being new admissions. There are 2,883 people in home isolation with 238 of them being new admissions. There are 1,904 people in home isolation in East Sikkim alone.

As many as 676 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Thursday, of which 453 were done on RT-PCR, resulting in 159 testing positive for the coronavirus.

Up to 217 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Thursday, of which 89 tested positive for COVID-19. One in six tests tested positive on CBNAT-TRUENAT.
