Gangtok: Sikkim on Saturday recorded 259 new COVID-19 cases taking the total tally in the state to 8,211.
The number of active cases in the state now stands at 1,647.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman without any co-morbidities was rushed to STNM Hospital from Singtam District Hospital on Friday afternoon. She passed away on Saturday morning after testing positive for COVID-19 on RAT, informed a hospital official. With this, the total number of fatalities in the state has now gone up to 148.
Of the new COVID-19 cases, 195 were reported from East Sikkim alone. The district collectively accounts for 6,241 COVID-19 cases so far.
East Sikkim recorded 936 cases in the past week, and 1,335 in the month of April. Up to 160 new patients are now in home isolation taking the total tally of such cases to 966 in in the district.
There are 109 patients admitted at STNM and CRH in Gangtok, the only two COVID-19 devoted hospitals in the state. There are 13 patients in ICU.
The other three districts in Sikkim accounted for 64 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of these, 32 were reported from South Sikkim, 22 from West Sikkim and 10 from North Sikkim.
As many as 328 cases were recorded in the three districts combined in April, with 348 in home isolation.
While North Sikkim has eight home isolation cases, West Sikkim has 23. The district hospitals in the three districts have 31 COVID beds in all. Only Mangan has eight patients admitted in the hospital.
The three districts collectively account for 1,790 cases so far, of which South Sikkim has 1,211, West Sikkim has 462 and North Sikkim has 117 cases.
Up to 797 tests were conducted with 560 in RT-PCR accounting for 211 new cases. As many as 227 persons were tested on RAT, of which 47 tested positive for COVID-19.
Ten persons were tested on CBNAT-TRUNAT, of which one was found to be COVID-19 positive.
In April, Sikkim recorded 11 positive cases with the UK strain of COVID-19 and 11 others with double mutant viruses.
