GANGTOK: One COVID-19 death was reported from the STNM Hospital on Tuesday, with a 40-year-old male from Sichey as the latest casualty. Sikkim also recorded 97 new COVID-19 cases, taking the active cases tally to 982 with 40 recoveries recorded on Tuesday. The state has cumulatively accounted for 7,426 cases so far.
While reports claimed a second COVID-19 related death in Sikkim, officials clarified the same was reported from Central Referral Hospital of a RAT-tested person who expired on Monday.
There were 10 cases recorded in persons below 19 years, with the youngest patient being a 7-year-old from Gangtok, who tested positive on RAT. There were 24 positive cases recorded in individuals within the age group of 20 to 29 years. 26 cases were recorded in the age group of 30 to 39 years. 9 cases were recorded in the age group of 40 to 45 years. 22 cases were recorded in the age group of 46 years to 60 years. While one positive case was above the age of 60 years and the oldest COVID positive person was an 82-year-old individual from North Sikkim, the only case reported from the district.
82 of the 97 cases were reported from East Sikkim, collectively, 51 of which were from the state capital region extending till Ranipool near Gangtok. East Sikkim has accounted for 914 cases in April so far. Cumulatively, the district has 5,635 COVID 19 cases so far. The margin is way higher number of cases as compared to three other districts combined.
West Sikkim recorded 10 new cases taking the district tally to 414 cases so far.
South Sikkim has recorded 4 new cases, with 127 of those being recorded in the past 22 days. The district tally now reads at 1118 cases. North Sikkim recorded a single case on Tuesday taking the district tally to 90 cases so far.
408 tests were done through RT PCR resulting in 74 testing positive. 11 tests were conducted through CBNAT and Truenat, accounting for no new COVID case. Rapid Antigen Testing was done for 194 with 23 testing positive.
