Gangtok: Sikkim recorded its 138th COVID casualty, the second this week, when an 87-year-old male from Gangtok expired on Sunday. The elderly patient was brought to the STNM Hospital earlier this week, and had a history of kidney concerns along with other co-morbidities.
The state recorded 148 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the biggest spike of 2021. The state has recorded 1,071 cases in April. The active cases have now reached 934, from 47 active cases at the end of March. The state tally now stands at 7,306 cases. There have been 715 cases in just the last 8 days.
East Sikkim has yet again recorded most of the COVID-19 cases, with 126 on Sunday. A total of 817 cases were recorded from the district in the past 22 days. Cumulatively the district has accounted for 5,546 cases.

West Sikkim recorded 8 new cases taking the district tally to 401 cases so far.
For two days now, North Sikkim has not recorded a single case after recording 33 cases in the past 16 days. The district collectively has 88 cases on record so far.
South Sikkim recorded 14 new cases on Sunday, taking the district tally to 1,110 cases so far. The district has so far recorded 119 cases in 20 days.

Only four patients recovered on Sunday, while April has recorded only 118 recoveries.
Over 672 tests were conducted on Saturday, with 552 RT-PCR resulting in 120 testing positive. 112 Rapid Antigen Testing was carried out resulting in 26 testing positive. 8 Truenat-cbnat tests were conducted, with 20 testing COVID 19 positive.
Seeing the rise in number of COVID 19 cases in the State, more specifically the East Sikkim, the state government declared Paljor Stadium Hall to be the COVID Care Centre. The premise is currently the centre for vaccination drive in the State Capital. The notification issued by government doesn’t clarify on where the vaccination will take place from here on.
