Gangtok: Sikkim government initiates mandatory ten days home or paid quarantines for local returnees from April 26. Yet, returnees with RT-PCR negative report taken in the last 72 hours need not undergo home quarantine. Paid quarantines will be available for asymptomatic COVID-19 positive persons who do not have home quarantine facilities.

The paid quarantines will be operated by the district administration, for those who cannot or decline home quarantine. COVID-19 management groups will be set up to identify and monitor the returnees during their period of home quarantine.

RAT testing will be carried out in Rangpo and Melli check-posts for tourists, however, the notification released on April 22 from State Home Department misses out on Pakyong Airport for RAT testing. While testing for locals remains voluntary.

Elsewhere, schools and institutions will remain shut till May 31. Workplaces will function with a 50% workforce, with government employees above 45 years to be compulsorily vaccinated before May 1, at least with the first dose.

A preliminary vaccination certificate will be mandatory to enter public offices or use public transport for people above 45 years of age. Vaccination for 18 years and above to be provided in a phased manner.
