Gangtok: Amidst the rising number of COVID-19 cases being reported among students and faculties in various schools in Sikkim, the Sikkim government has decided to shut down all educational institutions, including government, government-aided, and private, from April 12 till April 20.

This comes in the wake of a fresh new case being reported of a Class 10 student from Paljor Namgyal Girls Senior Secondary School on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, Tashi Namgyal Academy in Gangtok had reported as many as 14 cases in the school’s hostel among faculties and students.

Similarly, few other government schools have also been declared as containment zone amid rising cases being reported in the schools.

The inclination for the shit down also implied on all officers, and employees of all categories including teaching and non-teaching personnel working in government, government-aided and private educational institutions in Sikkim who are 45 years and above in age to be compulsorily vaccinated.

To achieve this vaccination for such officers and employees, the Department of Education, in a notification on Sunday morning, instructed that all activities related to the CBSE examinations slated during this period shall be taken up after April 20 as per the convenience of the CBSE Centre Superintendents. Online mode of education shall continue during this period.
