Indian Army in Sikkim carried out night evacuation of five persons including drivers and co-passengers of three trucks, stuck in heavy snow in the remote area between Samdong and Lachen, North Sikkim.

The rescue operation began between 9 pm to 11 pm on Friday. Additionally, areas of North Sikkim has been experiencing heavy snowfall from January 29 afternoon onward.

The rescued people were returning from Samdong to Siliguri, however, got stuck on the road in the evening and were unable to move from the place as more than two feet of snow accumulated, making driving extremely dangerous.

All personnel was safely evacuated and taken to Army Post where they were provided medicine, food, and warm clothing for a night stay in the camp.
