People from state stranded in Siliguri, West Bengal will be evacuated from May 4, priority to be given to students, announces Sikkim govt amid COVID-19 lockdown
Gangtok: In accordance with the revised guidelines issued by the Centre on movement of stranded people, the Sikkim government has formed a State Task Force to bring stranded residents home as soon as possible.
In a latest announcement, published by the department of information and public relations, the Sikkim government said that the persons stranded in Siliguri, West Bengal will be evacuated from May 4 onwards and priority will be given to students.
“Those returning will be sent to either home quarantine or institutional quarantine depending on the spot report provided by the state health department officials posted at Rangpo and Melli check-posts,” the notification said.
ASHA, anganwadi workers, local volunteers and the panchayats are assigned to form a team for support and monitoring of those placed under home quarantine. The local MLA and the medical officer will be the in-charge of the PHC concerned and all the district collectors of the four districts will be the overall in-charge at the district level.
For smooth functioning of the entire process, a cell has been set up for the evacuation and movement of stranded persons, headed by secretary, coordination as the nodal officer who will work with secretary transport department, PCE-cum-GM SNT-Transport department and under-secretary coordination, it said.
