Inclement weather: No tourist permits for Nathu la on Jan 4 & 5

Gangtok: Considering the inclement weather conditions prevailing in the region, East Sikkim district collector Raj Yadav on Friday issued directions to the authorities concerned not to issue permits for tourists planning to go to Nathu La on January 4 and 5, 2019.

The direction was made under provisions of Section 30 and 34(b) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and as per information received from the Indian Metereological Department, Gangtok in a bid to avoid any untoward incidents.

Located at an altitude of 14,140 ft above mean sea level, Nathu La pass is a popular tourist destination. The pass is located 54 km east of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. In winter, the pass is blocked by heavy snowfall.
