Gangtok: Union minister of state for sports & youth affairs Kiren Rijiju expressed confidence in winning all the three seats in the upcoming by-election in Sikkim on October 21. He was addressing a gathering at Ranipool truck stand in Gangtok during his visit to the state ahead of the by-polls.

“Both Centre and state governments are working for the welfare of Sikkim. I personally feel there is a good co-ordination between Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) which will definitely benefit Sikkim in the long run. The alliance is for the betterment of Sikkim and Sikkimese. There is already majority here and I am confident we will win all the three seats together and deliver a positive message,” he said.

Rijiju appealed to the public to support and vote for both the BJP candidates YT Lepcha and Sonam Venchungpa and provide them landslide victory like chief minister PS Golay is likely to attain at his constituency.

Rijiju was all praise about Sikkim. “Despite being a small state, Sikkimese are well disciplined, peaceful, developmental and progressive in nature,” he said.

He appealed the public not to worry about their future as Sikkim is in safe hands of chief minister PS Golay and his team. “Both Centre and state government will work as two sides of the same coin,” he said.

He also highlighted the difference between Article 370 and Article 371F. “Article 370 of Kashmir had kept the region away from India while Article 371F brings the region closer to India, therefore on behalf of the Centre, I assure the Sikkimese that BJP would never dilute your special rights that depicts your identity and culture, rather we assure to protect it and make it even more stronger,” he stressed. I will stay as your representative in the Centre and my door is always open for the Sikkimese people, he added.

Rijiju further assured that BJP has no interest of toppling the regional parties in the state like the rumours doing the rounds here after the alliance.

“BJP has a soft corner for Northeast region, we have formed NEDA especially for NE and now we will work together for Sikkim with SKM under this forum. Trust plays a very vital role in politics; therefore we are grateful to SKM for giving us two seats. We highly respect their decision,” he said.

He also asked the public not to believe such false rumours rather focus on the goal and good future. “On behalf of PM Narendra Modi I assure BJP will extend its full support to SKM for the development of Sikkim,” he added.

Rijiju also thrashed West Bengal government for their incompetency in the maintenance of National Highway which connects Sikkim to other parts of the country.

“If the road is smooth, then it would roughly take only two hours to reach Sikkim from Siliguri but it takes four hours due to the bad road condition and traffic jam. Sikkim is not at fault as the maximum road area of NH 10 falls under West Bengal. The day BJP will form its government in WB then not just NH 10 but entire West Bengal will have better roads. WB government and CM is highly inefficient, they murder political leaders, they do not promote developments and is extremely non-co-operative,” he alleged.

Rijiju later attended another public meeting in Gangtok and also called on governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhawan.
