PS Golay announces Rs 1 lakh to all families whose houses are fully damaged, Rs 50,000 to houses that are partially damaged from the CM’s Relief Fund
Gangtok: Sikkim chief minister PS Golay visited the landslide-affected areas of Tsong and Mangtabung in West Sikkim on Thursday. During his interaction with the public of Yuksom, he assured full assistance and support from the state government.
He stated that his government will work hard to rehabilitate the affected people. A new house under Garib Awaas Yojana will be provided to all the victims whose houses are completely damaged, he informed.
The CM further announced to give Rs 1 lakh to all the families whose houses are fully damaged and Rs 50,000 to houses that are partially damaged, from the CM’s Relief Fund.
Meanwhile, the family of the elderly woman, who died after she sustained injuries in a landslide, was given Rs 4 lakh by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Rs 2 lakh by the CM’s Relief Fund.
Despite all efforts made by the government, she was unable to be airlifted from Yuksom due to bad weather conditions.
The CM also disbursed ex gratia amounts along with other necessary items like sleeping bags, water pipes and blankets to the landslide victims. He also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh from the CM’s Relief Fund for the relief camp inmates at Yuksam.
He further informed that the mines and geology department will survey the affected areas to determine the stability of the affected areas and based on the department's report decision will be taken as to where to rehabilitate the people.
Golay urged the state road and bridges department to restore the damaged roads at the earliest for smooth connectivity and transportation of relief materials to the relief camp located at Yuksam.
He then thanked all the officials concerned for their commendable job and the people of Yuksom for cooperating during the calamity.
The chief minister was accompanied by MP Indra Hang Subba, deputy speaker Sangay Lepcha, HRDD minister KN Lepcha and PHE minister BH Subba, among others.
