SKM president PS Golay during an election rally in Namchi, Sikkim

Gangtok: PS Golay, the founder of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), received a rousing welcome from his supporters on Friday, a day after the party he founded bagged 17 seats in the 32-member Sikkim legislative assembly on Thursday.

Celebrations continued late into the night when Golay arrived at Deorali in Gangtok to meet his supporters. Crackers were burst and victory slogans raised to celebrate the end of 25 years of Pawan Kumar Chamling’s rule.

“The MLAs of the party will unanimously decide the CM candidature.  There is no debate in our party as to who’ll be the next CM. SKM will take a collective decision on the candidature,” said Golay when asked about who will be the next CM.

The new government will take oath on May 27 at Paljor Stadium. The senior leader met the governor on Saturday along with his candidates. Golay further said that being the NDA partner, they’ll support the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the Centre.

“After forming the government officially, we will start with our ‘parivartan karyakram’ until then we won’t declare any announcements,” he said. He further thanked everyone for giving SKM the responsibility of public mandate.

“We won’t be victimising or transferring any government employee. We will work according to the norms and rules,” said Golay.
