Gangtok: The 14th edition of the Indo-China border trade was opened for trade at Nathu La in Sikkim on Wednesday.
Every year, the trade starts in the month of April and continues till November and it is operational for four days a week — from Monday to Thursday.
A team of officials headed by Dr Thomas Chandy, principal secretary including senior officers of the commerce and industries department and others as well as Central agencies were present on the opening day of the inter-border trade event.

Significantly, the Indo-China border trade has been generating employment to locals, especially youths and housewives, in large numbers who are now engaged in business in the field.
The value of trade for export was Rs 45.03 crore and for import Rs 3.23 crore last year.
Wheat flour, oil, biscuits, utensils and copper articles are some of the items that are eligible for exports from India. Similarly, readymade garments, carpets, blankets, shoes and China clay are some of the imported items from China.
