Gangtok: Kicking off his election campaign, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) president PS Golay appealed to the masses to give the party one chance to run the government and see the change. Golay was addressing a public rally in Namchi on Friday.

The SKM president asked the people to vote them to power. “We do not need 25 years. Just give us an opportunity of five years in government. We will do an operation and show people how much Sikkim has been looted in 25 years,” he said.

Accusing the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) of making promises only to “win votes” and never fulfilling them, Golay said, “Every promise mentioned in our [SKM] manifesto will be fulfilled within five years. Our government will eradicate corruption in Sikkim. We will give transparent and clean administration to the ‘Sikkimey Janta’.”

Also, he directed SKM cadres to campaign in a calm and peaceful manner for the upcoming elections.

Furthermore, the SKM president condemned SDF for its inability to solve the drinking water crisis in Namchi, in spite of being in power for 25 years. He said, “Give us one chance and we will make strong arrangements for regular water supply to Namchi.”

The rally in Namchi covered four constituencies -- Melli, Namchi-Singithang, Poklok-Kamrang and Namthang-Rateypani. The SKM candidates of these four constituencies also addressed the public meeting.

Earlier, SKM Lok Sabha candidate Indra Hang Subba said the SDF government is responsible for the inordinate delay in completion of Sikkim University campus at Yangang. He vowed to raise all Sikkim related issues in the Parliament if elected to power.
