Gangtok: Hamro Sikkim Party working president Bhaichung Bhutia initiated a first-of-its kind fundraiser for a political party in Sikkim. In an attempt to "raise clean money for clean politics in Sikkim", the former Indian football captain will auction two of his favourite jerseys from his illustrious career for the purpose.

The two jerseys in contention are the ones he wore for 'Match against poverty' organised by the United Nations Development Programme that featured football icons such as Zinedine Zidane (France) and Figo (Portugal) and were signed by many football icons. The second jersey was from his farewell match for India when they went up against German football club Bayern Munich at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.

Calling on all citizens of India to donate for the political campaign of Hamro Sikkim Party in the upcoming Sikkim Assembly Elections, Bhutia highlighted that the highest donor will get the jersey he wore for ‘Match against Poverty’ while the second highest donor will be getting the jersey from his farewell match.

"We are here to cleanse the caste-corruption-muscle ridden politics of Sikkim. Clean money for this brand of politics must come from common people. That is why I have decided to gift two of my favourite jerseys to persons who make the highest and second highest donation to the campaign of Hamro Sikkim Party,” Bhutia said, adding: “I know that there are many public-spirited sports-lovers in India and I hope they will come forward and make handsome donations to the cause of clean politics in India. I have deep emotional attachments to my jerseys but I have an even deeper resolve to make Sikkim a better place for all. I am ready to give up my personal emotions for the larger cause of a new, clean Sikkim and realise the slogan ‘Naya Sikkim, Hamro Sikkim’.”

The donation drive will be conducted on http://htc-group.org which will go live on Monday at 10 am. HTC Sports is the home to the most comprehensive sport development programme of any institution. Details of the methods of donation and links to donate online shall be soon posted on the Facebook page of Hamro Sikkim Party and other online media. All donations shall be through banking channels and shall be publicly disclosed, it was informed.
