Gangtok: Stressing on the need for a clean political environment, keeping the overall development of Sikkim in mind, Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) has said that only candidates with clean image will get party tickets for the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

“We always believe in clean politics. Hopefully, people of the state will appreciate this. We have formed a committee which will screen candidates before clearing the list of candidates of the party for the polls. We always try our best to select candidates with unblemished personal records and proven track record in public service,” said party leader and former Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhutia.

He further added that with the launching of the campaign, ‘Naya Sikkim, Hamro Sikkim’, the party will revolutionise the cleansing process of politics in state.

Ahead of the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha polls in state, HSP has already formed a screening committee to select candidates with clean image.

The five-member selection committee is being headed by party president Bina Basnett and comprises five other members of the party. While party vice-president DS Limboo will look after the west district, south district president Hukum Chandra Rai and vice-president Nima Lepcha will be responsible for selection of candidates for east district. Party spokesperson Biraj Adhikari will be working as convener of the selection committee.

Sharing greetings on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Friday, president Basnett said, “Women empowerment in the state can happen in a better way, when more women join politics.”

Meanwhile, the party has set up its new party head office at Development Area in Gangtok. The new office will also function as the state election headquarters of the party.
