Gangtok: In a horrific road accident, six people lost their lives when the SUV they were travelling in plunged 800 feet into a gorge on the Mangley-Yangang road in South Sikkim on Sunday evening.
While three people died on the spot, the other three succumbed to their injuries at Singtam Hospital where they were taken for treatment. As per reports, the family was on their way back from a marriage ceremony in Namthang in South Sikkim when the driver lost control of the vehicle bearing registration number, SK-01 J 0888.
Chief minister Pawan Chamling visited the village on Monday and offered his condolence to the family and relatives of the deceased.
The deceased have been identified as Bhim Rai (driver of the vehicle), Tilak Gurung, Joel Gurung, Chandrabahadur, Purnimaya Gurung and Narbahadur Gurung, as per police.
