Meghalaya: Progress of Rs 11.23 crore projects in Raid Laban reviewed

Shillong: South Shillong MLA and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai on Friday reviewed ongoing development projects in the Raid Laban area, with a total outlay exceeding ₹11 crore. The projects include road widening works and the development of a football ground.

Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Sports Department and Water Resources Department accompanied the minister during the inspection, along with representatives of the Raid Laban shnong.

Shullai said the projects were taken up following the sanction of ₹11.23 crore by the State government. Of the total amount, nearly ₹4 crore has been earmarked for the PWD for widening the road from the Raid Laban College gate to Pom Muid.

The MLA acknowledged the cooperation extended by the Raid Laban shnong and the Raid Laban College authorities for providing land required for the road expansion.

Shullai also inspected the existing football ground and the site where artificial turf is being laid. He said around ₹6 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the sports facility.

Meanwhile, the minister informed that the Water Resources Department has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of a check dam at an estimated cost of about ₹2 crore. He said the proposed structure would help conserve water for use at the football ground and also improve water availability in the wider Laban area.
