Mizoram: 12-year-old fatally struck by BSF vehicle sparks outcry

Aizawl: In a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday evening, a 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, igniting outrage among the local community. The victim, identified as Lalawmpuia, was hit near the ICFAI gate in Durtlang North around 5 p.m. while riding his bicycle.

Despite immediate medical attention, Lalawmpuia succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, leading to a surge of anger and frustration among the residents. According to eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage, individuals dressed in BSF uniforms were observed inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. They emerged from the vehicle following the collision but swiftly returned before any intervention could be made. Attempts by bystanders to halt their departure proved futile as the individuals fled the scene.

Prompt action was taken by local authorities, resulting in the apprehension of the driver, who is currently under police custody. The incident prompted a gathering of local residents at the BSF headquarters in Durtlang, where they expressed their dismay and demanded justice for Lalawmpuia.

Reports indicate that the crowd remained assembled well into the night, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the community’s resolve to seek accountability for the tragic loss.
