Guwahati: In a remarkable journey of perseverance and determination, 22-year-old Pranav Nair, affected by cerebral palsy and wheelchair-bound, has overcome numerous challenges to secure a coveted placement at Google, one of the world’s leading technology companies. Pranav’s inspiring story unfolds from his childhood struggles to becoming a computer engineering student at IIT Guwahati.

Pranav’s early years were marked by academic hurdles as mainstream schools hesitated to admit him due to the need for logistical adjustments. His parents, unwavering in their belief in his education, provided a supportive environment, enabling him to pursue education at a mainstream school in Muscat, Oman.

Facing physical challenges in mobility, Pranav had to depend on specific modes of transport, adding to the complexities of his studies. Despite missing out on typical childhood experiences like picnics and sports, he found solace and success in public speaking, developing determination that would shape his future, including a job at Google.

“My parents provided me with a platform where I could dream beyond ordinary norms,” Pranav expressed, attributing his success to their unwavering support, both emotionally and financially.

Originally aspiring to become a doctor, Pranav shifted his focus to computer engineering due to his love for computers. Securing a seat in the Computer Science and Engineering program in the Person with Disability (PWD) category at IIT Guwahati, he emphasised the role of technology in making his life more accessible and fulfilling.

Reflecting on his time at IIT Guwahati, Pranav acknowledged the institute’s role as a stepping stone, offering numerous opportunities for growth, including placements, hackathons, inter IIT events, and participation in various clubs.

“It was Pranav’s seniors at IIT Guwahati who helped him crack two internships with Google during an on-campus recruitment drive,” reported PTI.

Pranav’s journey at IIT Guwahati was marked by the support of his peers and the institute’s conducive environment. Senior students played a pivotal role in helping him secure internships with Google, leading to a Pre Placement Offer (PPO) from Google in Bengaluru.

Looking towards the future, the IIT Guwahati student envisions a career in software engineering that contributes to societal transformation. He aims to use technology to make people’s lives more accessible, echoing the positive impact it has had on his own life.

“I also wish that my physical disabilities don’t bother me in any way during my work and that I have an equal platform with work-life balance,” the IIT Guwahati student expressed, hopeful for a future where his abilities define his success, not his challenges.
