Tinsukia: Hundreds of local youths, with placards in hand, took out a march against National Socialist Council of Nagalim in Arunachal’s Longding district, demanding unconditional release of Gaon Burah (village headman) Napho Boham of Lauksim village.

The placards read “No insurgency, we want peace, NSCN stop abduction, Sovereign does not mean to punish the common people – RSU, NSCN (K-YA) stop harassing us, NSCN (K-YA) leave Longding for peace” among others.

The development came a day after Boham was abducted at gun point and remains untraceable even more than 48 hours of the kidnapping.

According to sources, the angry villagers of Kanubari, in collaboration with Rujen Students Union (RSU), came out in open to express their deep resentment against the illegal activities of the insurgent groups operating in Longding district

The protestors turned up in large numbers in Lauxim village and shouted slogans against the insurgents. “They unanimously pledged to secure an unconditional release of Boham from the captivity of NSCN (K-YA) insurgents,” added sources.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched combing operations to secure release of the Gaon Burah. Sources said, as per latest inputs, the NSCN (K-YA) abductors, lead by self styled lieutenant Wangbet Wangjen, are hiding in the jungles in the vicinity of Jaboka village of Mon district.

Sources said, the protests, an open defiance against the armed outfits, is an indication of the waning support base of insurgents in Tirap-Changlang-Longding belt which has left the militants red faced.

In April this year, almost 120 gaon buras of Tirap and Longding districts extended their support to security forces to tackle the menace of NSCN insurgents operating across the two districts, during a meeting at Khonsa.
