New Delhi: Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has directed the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to hand over Chongkham to Brahmakund (Parsuram Kund) stretch of National Highway-15 in Arunachal Pradesh to the NHIDCL.

He also asked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development (NHIDCL) to immediately start the construction work on the said stretch of the road once the handing over process is complete.

The directions from the union minister came following a meeting with Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein who had on Tuesday called on the former regarding the construction of the road.

The NH-15 road portion from Chowkham to Brahmakund connects three districts – Namsai, Lohit and Anjaw bordering Tibet. Earlier, the road was under the BRO but was transferred to the NHIDCL on July 7, 2021.

The formal handing over of the road is, however, yet to be done and as a result, the construction work has been halted with neither the BRO nor NHIDCL maintaining it.

The stretch of road has been lying in a deplorable condition causing inconvenience to the commuters.

On being apprised of the same, Gadkari asked the NHIDCL to repair the road before starting the construction work.

Among others, the meeting was also attended by BRO director general Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhary, NHIDCL managing director Chanchal Kumar and other officials of Roads, Transport and Highways.
