Guwahati: An elephant was found dead by electrocution under the Burapahar Tea Estate area around the periphery of the Kaziranga National Park of Assam on Friday.
The area where the elephant was found dead falls under the Hatidandi animal corridor that elephant herds often tread on, informed park officials.
“This elephant was found just outside the national park. There was a transformer and some lines there in the Burapahar Tea Estate and the elephant was found stuck to the transformer,” Kaziranga DFO RK Gogoi told EastMojo.
“The elephant was first seen by someone from the tea garden who informed us (Kaziranga National Park authorities) in the morning,” Gogoi added.
It was a hard ground so more details about the elephant could not be ascertained, the official said, further adding that the elephants frequently pass through the animal corridor that goes through the tea estate.
