Shillong: Amid criticism over the recent IED blast at Khyndailad in Shillong city, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday has assured the citizens that the police and the entire government machinery is working overtime and all those involved will not be spared.
The chief minister said that police acted very swiftly and within 12 hours after the incident, the people involved were picked up and more investigation is on.
“The government will do everything that needs to be done to ensure that justice is done and incidents like this aren’t repeated. The government is very firm about it. Within a few days, we will be revealing more information since the police are still investigating,” said Sangma.
Concerning the Opposition calling it an intelligence failure, the CM said that it would be unfair to say it was intelligence failure since there were several other untoward incidents that the department was able to stop.
“When we talk of intelligence, we get thousands of intelligence every day. It is a massive network of information that flows in and the police and government go through all this information and intel, and act accordingly. That is how a lot of things are stopped. So while these kinds of things are happening, nobody realises the kind of intel that has come in, and because of it a lot of untoward incidents have been stopped,” he added.
The chief minister also lauded the intelligence and police department that when this incident happened, they were able to pick up the culprits in a very short time. “The intelligence and police department are working very hard; they have all the information,” said Sangma.
The chief minister has assured that the government will do its best to ensure that such incidents do not recur. “We will do everything to ensure peace is restored,” he added.
On January 30, an IED blast took place in front of a commercial complex in Khyndailad. There were no casualties or vehicle damage. Banned militant outfit Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) claimed responsibility for the blast.
