Assamese Movies on ReelDrama

The covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly changed our lives in many ways and one of them is the way we watch our favorite shows or movies.

As our watching habits have evolved, a new set of OTT platforms are emerging in the regional markets catering to local tastes and preferences.

Now that the local OTT platform has set foot, ReelDrama, a dedicated Assamese OTT platform announced its launch on January 20, 2022.

What is ReelDrama?

ReelDrama is an online streaming platform for Assamese films, web series, shows, etc. This OTT platform seems like the new dawn of the Assamese film industry. Not only the latest movies will be streamed on the platform, the evergreen Assamese films like Hiya Diya Niya, Anuradha, Nayak will also be available in the app.

As per reports, the app shall be available in 133 countries. It will be soon available on Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon, and others.

Momtaaj

Directed by Pulak Gogoi, Momtaaj was released in 2014. The film showcases a tale of desperate love and heartbreak between the star-crossed lovers Momtaaj and Bedana. The Assamese film runs for nearly two hours and features five songs. The director also received the Best Director Award in the first Filmfare Awards (East) 2013 for Momtaaj.

Ratnakaar

Ratnakaar is one of the highest-grossing Assamese movie. It is an action drama and romantic film directed by Jatin Bora, the Assamese filmstar himself. The 2019 film showcases the power of love between a father and a daughter. When Dubori is kidnapped, a devoted father sets out to find her at any cost. The film also features famous actors Barsha Rani Bishaya and Nishita Goswami.

Kokaideu Bindaas

Directed by Dhruba Jyoti Bordoloi, Kokaideu Bindaas portrays the life of two brothers in a most unassuming way. Despite their differences, the two brothers go on a road trip to discover life and face their challenges together. Two lead characters are played by Gunjan Bhardwaj and Monuj Borkotoky. If you are seeking a light-hearted fun time then this movie is just for you.

Local Kung-Fu

Local Kung Fu is one of the most hilarious films in the Assamese film industry. This film was directed by Kenny Basumatary and is known to be the second Assamese film to have been released nationwide. Dubbed as India’s first Kung Fu film, the story tells us about Charlie ‘an ordinary boy with a delicate stomach’ along with his girlfriend and a few madcap characters. This film had garnered a loyal fan following across the internet because of its simplicity yet so entertaining comedy.

Bornodi Bhotiai

Two hour-long film, Bornodi Bhotiai portrays the soul and real ambiance of Majuli, known to be the largest river island across the globe. With the use of magic realism, Director Anupam Kaushik Borah shows there is more to Majuli than Xattras. Bornodi Bhotiai won the best film in Sailadhar Baruah Memorial Film Awards 2019.
